The History Behind Kia's Success

Today, the story behind Kia is really a success story. Headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, Kia is South Korea's second-largest auto manufacturer. They are just one place behind Hyundai's motor. iN 2012, Kia had a revenue of more than 42 billion dollars, an operating income of 3.16 billion and a net income of 3.47 million dollars. Furthermore, Kia has around 42,000 employees throughout the world. In 2012, Kia had over 1.6 million vehicles sold.

But even though in paper Kia nd Hyundai are competitors, there is something more behind the scenes. Kia is partly (32.8%) owned by Hyundai Motor Company. Together with Hyundai Motor Company, Kia is part of one of the largest automotive groups in the world in sales, just trailing behind Toyota, General Motors, and Volkswagen AG.

Kia drives from the Korean words that mean to come or to arise from Asia. And we have to say that what has come out of Asia through Kia is better with each day.

Kia is South Korea's second oldest car company. The company was founded in 1944. At first, Kia was a manufacturer of bicycle parts. With time, Kia began to manufacture motorcycles and then, in 1973, opened up their first integrated automotive assembly. Then there followed a time of ups and down, ending with bankruptcy in 1997. One year later, Hyundai Motor Company acquired 51% of the company.

One of the main keys of Kia's success is its emphasis on design. In 2006, Kia hired Peter Schreyer as their Chief Design Officer. This was a crucial move, with Peter Schreyer having previously worked at Audi and having an important part in designing the Audi TT. In addition, Schreyer had won the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Without a doubt, Kia keeps going on the way up. Specially through their partnership with Hyundai, Kia is able to come up with new technology and integrate into their products with relative easy and incredible speed.
